10 things I learned from getting fired
Top Ten Things I Learned From Getting Fired
A little ways back, I got fired. It wasn't expected. When I got off the with HR, I called my wife who immediately expressed her joy that I didn't have to be there any longer. Hearing how happy she was, really made me switch gears mentally. So many times in life I've heard people say "getting fired from that job ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me"! It was. Here are some things I learned from getting fired...
- That job wasn't right for you. You didn't like it there and were probably already looking for a new job. It wasn't a good fit. It wasn't right. Sure you would have liked to have found something new at your own pace, but sometimes life gives us a little nudge now and then!
- If your employer spends a lot of time telling everyone not to leave because even though the grass appears greener on the other side, it isn't. It probably is.
- Along those same lines, if your employer spends a lot of time telling you that other companies may pay more, but they don't have the culture that you enjoy at that company, it is time to go.
- During normal times, you forget how large and encompassing your support group is until something like this happens. It is incredible how many people really care about you.
- When your employer says your financial situation has nothing to do with how much you make and instead of a raise, you just need to learn financial literacy, it is time to run.
- If you work 70 hours to build your dream, that is awesome. If you work 70 hours to increase your company's profit margin so they don't have to hire someone, you are both dumb.
- People don't get fired from jobs they love.
- It opens up the future to whatever you want. Do you like your industry? Do you want a change? Move up the ladder elsewhere? Now is the time, the world is wide open to you!
- Look for jobs that value your knowledge and experience. There is a much better fit somewhere in the near future for you. Plus, it is much better to find a new job than to stay at a place that doesn't see your value.
- Getting fired will be the best thing that ever happened to you! Ok, maybe not the "best", that is probably your wedding day or when you had kids, but it will be one of the best things for the trajectory of your life!
