Top 10 Best Sports Movies Ever
I love sports movies! There is nothing better than an action packed, feel good sport movie. Not only are they super fun to watch, many have great life lessons. Luckily for those of us fans, Hollywood completely agrees and is constantly pumping them out. After having seen gillions of sports movies, I wanted to rank my top-ten all-time greatest sports movies, and yes they are in order! Here we go...
1) Remember the Titans - This is an easy pick for #1!! This is a great feel good story with players overcoming racial tensions in the 1970's. You cannot beat this movie. Denzel is the man and the action scenes are awesome. There is even a little love story and plenty of drama. It is a win for everyone and it is based on a true story! If any movie will give you chills and bring a tear (even a manly tear) to the eye it is this one!
2) Miracle - Amazing and true story about the USA whooping the USSR in hockey. Oh, this was no regular hockey match, it was during the Olympics at a time when the tension between the two countries was huge! Plus, the US was using amateur players against pros of other countries. This is possibly the greatest sporting win of all time! Yes, of all time. USA! USA! USA!
3) Hoosiers - a huge classic, I love it! Overcoming life and hardships to conquer it all! The motivating speeches by a coach convincing his team of underdogs is inspirational for anyone! If you are ever feeling down on life, just check this flick out and then go conquer the world!
4) Blindside - Another amazing and true story! Sandra Bullock kills it in this movie. Michael Oher was an all-American collegiate athlete, was drafted in the first round of the NFL and helped his team win Super Bowl XLVII. Before he rocked the NFL, he was a poor down and out kid with not much hope of winning in life! Not only did Michael powerfully succeed, it just shows what we can help others do when we are willing to lift them up!
5) Soul Surfer - An absolutely amazing story of Bethany Hamilton who had her arm chomped off by a shark while surfing! Did she let that keep her down? Nope! She came back, kept surfing and competed professionally again! She is an amazingly role model for my daughter and probably the only celebrity I'd be excited for her follow. Now she spends her time trying to motivate young women to rise up and overcome the challenges they face in life.
6) 42 - Jackie Robinson's story becoming the first black professional baseball player, is absolutely amazing! I can't imagine what it must have been like for Jackie to overcome that huge obstacle in entering pro sports with all white players! This movie takes us through some of his life and his breakthrough into pro baseball!
7) Rudy - oh ya, total classic! This is an amazing story about how a small, undersized and weak college kid made it on the field at Notre Dame through sheer freaking grit! He was rejected by the school 3 times but would not let the world, or the admission committee keep him down! Recently, there was a gal who gave an awesome TED talk on Grit and then wrote a book on the subject. Though the talk and book were both pretty awesome, save yourself sometime and watch Rudy! That is all you need to know. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
8) The Sandlot - Fun movie that I've always loved and my kids love it too. Several of the movies listed on my Top 10 list are based off true accounts. This movie seems to be based off all of our accounts as kids finding stuff to do during the long summer breaks from school. This awesome feature reminds you what it was live through some of those crazy summers, well at least before electronic devices became so prevalent!
9) Rocky - I love Rocky! He is very inspiring and every time I go jogging in the snow, I think about Rocky IV and push harder. There is just something we love about an underprivileged underdog coming out on top of the world! He pulls himself up from having nothing and due to an incredible amount of hard-work and perseverance, he is a champion! You know people love the movie as they are still adding to the series 40 years later! Awesome!
10) Field of Dreams - Fun story and is definitely a classic. Sure, it is kinda weird that a fella builds a baseball field in his yard to reconnect with his dad who has passed away, but it is a great story. "if you build it...."
